Brown Plus Starts New Initiatives to Support Minority Students Studying Accounting

Regional premier advisory firm, Brown Plus, has started two annual initiatives to support minority students who are studying accounting.

The first is a scholarship with the National Association for Black Accountants (NABA). NABA scholarships aim to break the economic barriers that black students often experience by providing funds for those entering various accounting, finance and business professions.

The second is a sponsorship of a Harrisburg-area minority student to attend the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) Foundation’s Accounting Scholars Leadership Workshop, which aims to strengthen students’ professional skills and understanding of the benefits of the CPA designation.

“We’re starting these initiatives to address two factors that are disproportionately reducing the accounting profession’s attractiveness to underrepresented groups: lack of exposure to the industry prior to college, and insufficient support,” said Ken Wolfe, President and Managing Principal at Brown Plus. “We want to ensure that students of all backgrounds see accounting as a viable and attainable career.”

The National Association for Black Accountants (NABA) is a nonprofit membership association dedicated to bridging the opportunity gap for black professionals in the accounting, finance and related business professions. To learn more about NABA, visit https://www.nabainc.org/

The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) is the national professional organization of Certified Public Accountants in the United States. The AICPA Foundation aims to support and grow the next generation of CPAs through three primary focuses: accounting education and outreach; scholarships and fellowships; and diversity and inclusion.
